Welcome to Ithaca Island, Ionian Sea, Greece

One of the Ionian Islands, Ithaca (or Ithaki) is a small, mountainous and rocky island, which has retained much of its local colour, some picturesque coastal villages and unspoiled beaches. Located at the northeast of Kefalonia, it is the second smallest island of the Heptanese. Ithaca lacks the tourist infrastructure of the islands around it. It has remained a peaceful, relaxing and unpretentious place, ideal for enjoying the quiet and beauty of Nature.

Why come to Ithaca
Well known as the homeland of the legendary king Odysseus (Ulysses), Ithaca combines its history, tradition and culture with its wild and virgin natural beauty. Its bright green mountains, traditional settlements, panoramic views and crystal-clear waters render Ithaca a holiday destination of exceptional beauty. It is no coincidence that many visitors from all around the world return here year after year.

Homeric Ithaca
Homer's Odyssey, the epic poem of the wanderings of Odysseus from Troy to his homecoming, made Ithaca famous worldwide. In Odyssey Homer gives a very detailed description of the palaces and the surrounding areas, and depicts the political, cultural and social life on the island. Although many people argue that today's Ithaca is not the Homeric Ithaca, only the island of Ithaca does coincide with Homer's analytical descriptions.
